STATEMENT BY HEALTH AND SAFETY IN EMPLOYMENT AMENDMENT ACT

21 December 2001

IMPLEMENTATION ADVISORY PANEL

Background
The Implementation Advisory Panel (IAP) has been established by the Minister of Labour to advise the Minister and Department of Labour on the best means of implementing the proposed amendments to the legislation. This will ensure that the Department has access to advice drawn from a diverse number of perspectives that consider the best way of maximising Government's policy intent, while at the same time providing certainty, consistency and ease of compliance for business and other stakeholders.

Membership of the IAP is drawn from employer and employer representative bodies, as well as from a number of industry sector groups. IAP members are in a position to obtain an in depth understanding of the proposed legislation and in turn educate the organisations they represent in order to facilitate informed debate. The IAP may also fulfil a role in extending this education process to the wider business community.

The Panel members are:

  • Peter Chemis of Buddle Findlay (Chair)
  • Vaughan Renner of South Pacific Tyres (Deputy Chair)
  • Anne Knowles of Business New Zealand
  • Ross Wilson of NZ Council of Trade Unions
  • Jim Bell of OSH Auckland Region
