Regional Plan for Northland |

Positioned at the top of Northland, stretching from Cape Reinga to Towai with the northernmost town being Kaitaia, the Far North has a resident population of 53, 000, of which 54% are Maori and 55% are living in areas of poverty and social deprivation. For local authority purposes it also includes the Mid-North. The Mid-North boundary covers the Hokianga, Bay of Islands and ending at Towai.

The Auckland North region covers the area west of Avondale and north to Wellsford, incorporating four regional authorities. The region has a mix of socio-economic and ethnic groups and a diverse labour market. |
Regional Plan for Auckland Central |

The Auckland Central region’s geographical area covers the narrow Auckland isthmus between two harbours, the Waitemata to the east, and the Manukau to the west. It encompasses the Gulf Islands of Waiheke and Great Barrier, the central suburbs of Ponsonby and Mt Eden and into the city’s central business district. Its boundaries move west to Mt Albert, Pt Chevalier, Onehunga and Three Kings/Mt Roskill and also out to the eastern suburbs of Panmure, Glen Innes and Highland Park, covering the Howick and Pakuranga areas.

The Auckland South region encompasses approximately 290,000 hectares of land and takes in Manukau, the third largest city in New Zealand, along with Papakura, Franklin and a small part of Auckland City. It is one of 13 Department of Work and Income regions and one of three in the Auckland metropolitan area.

The Waikato region encompasses much of the centre of the North Island. The region consists of four sub-regions:Hamilton City, Huntly/Ngaruawahia, Rural and Hauraki.

The Bay of Plenty region geographically covers the area stretching from the Central Bay of Plenty settlement of Turangi in the south, to Katikati in the north, Whakatane and Opotiki in the east, and the dairy and forestry town of Tokoroa in the west.

Regional Plan for East Coast |

The East Coast region extends from Potaka in the north to Te Hauke in the south. The region encompasses territory administered by the Gisborne District Council, Wairoa District Council, Napier City Council and Hastings District Council.

In the centre of the region are the larger provinces of Taranaki and Wanganui. These are bordered in the south by the Rangitikei River, Waiouru in the east and by the King Country and Waitomo districts in the north.

The Central region is located in the lower central North Island. It covers the area from Kapiti and the Horowhenua in the west, to Carterton in the east, north up through the Central Hawkes Bay to Waipukurau, and back through to Dannevirke and the Manawatu. The major urban area in our region is Palmerston North.

The Wellington region has four territorial cities within its boundaries –Porirua, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt and Wellington, with each city providing its own diverse range of exciting opportunities while facing quite separate challenges.

The region extends from Awarua Point in the south-west to Cape Farewell at the north-western tip of the South Island. The eastern boundary follows a line north along the Southern Alps to Maruia where it turns further eastwards following the Waiau River to the East Coast of the South Island.

The Canterbury region includes a catchment area from the Conway River, North Canterbury to the Rangitata River in the south and from the Pacific Ocean in the east to Arthur’s Pass in the west as well as the Chatham Islands.

The Southern region covers the lower half of the South Island,stretching from the Rangitata River, 50 kilometres north of Timaru, to Stewart Island.
