PRIME MINISTER WELCOMES PROGRESS ON IMMIGRATION |
"The National Minority Government recognises that increasing the level of business expertise, investment and skilled workers in New Zealand will assist in creating economic growth and jobs for New Zealanders," Prime Minister Jenny Shipley said today.
The Prime Minister welcomed the launch of new immigration policy initiatives today. "New Zealand must continue to present itself as a good place in which to do business. It remains one of the best countries in the world in which to live and bring up a family. "Welcoming new migrants who will make a contribution to our business sector will assist in meeting our goals of improving our business competitiveness, and therefore increasing the living standards of New Zealanders. "New Zealand is a nation of migrants, from the first arrivals from the Pacific to the more recent waves from Europe and Asia. Each group has brought its own culture and the blending of those influences has created the dynamic exciting society that is modern New Zealand. We should embrace this diversity." The Prime Minister said today's policies are part of a range of measures which will help boost our economy by promoting New Zealand in the world. Ends
