There is a knowledge revolution sweeping down on top of us.

This idea underpins much of the Foresight Project. The central ideas are simple: knowledge is now the driver of our future success as a society and as an economy. People who have, and know how to use knowledge are more important than capital or physical labour. And, in a world of finite resources, knowledge is an infinite resource.

The coming of the knowledge revolution is inevitable - we can’t avoid it, but we do have a profoundly important choice ahead of us.

We can let it run over us, or we can embrace it and use it to shape our future as we want it.

There are therefore two enormous challenges sitting before New Zealand: First, are we going to recognise that the knowledge revolution is here? Second, are we going to harness it to our ends rather than having it run over the top of us?
