The NZ Population Conference
Wellington, New Zealand
12-14 November 1997Conference Proceedings Disk
This disk contains most of the speeches, charts and tables as presented to the Population Conference which took place at Te Papa Tongarewa, the new Museum of New Zealand on 12-14 March 1997.These are all the main papers presented to the conference.
In addition to the substantive presentation documents, there are Speech Note Summaries of each session which includes points raised from the floor and general discussions that followed the formal presentations.
FILE FORMAT:
The "Install.exe" file on this disk is a compressed (zipped) file of "PopConf.doc" which is for use in Word 6 or 7, using Windows v3.1, Windows for Workgroups v3.11 or Windows 95. For the technically minded, it is saved in 16 bit format so it can be used on many systems. The compression is simply to get the file small enough to fit on this one disk.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR EXTRACTING THE FILE:-
No special programme is required to extract the Word file, simply double-clicking on the file will start the self-extraction process.Because the document is 8 megabytes in size (8Mb), it will take a few minutes for it to extract once the process is started. Don't be alarmed at the time it takes.
The extraction process will NOT change any files nor alter any settings on your computer. It simply decompresses the file to make it readable in Microsoft Word.
STEP BY STEP
In File Manager (Win3.1 & 3.11) or Explorer (Win95), select the A:\ drive, simply double click on the file named Install.exe
- On-screen instructions will lead you through the installation. No changes are made to any other file or system setting.
- You can use the default settings of the extraction process or you can specify which directory the file goes to. In most cases, it's just easier to use the defaults.
- The Word file will be "extracted out" to its full size and put in your C:\TEMP directory. The file you see is now called "PopConf.doc" and is ready for opening in Microsoft Word.
- You should then move or copy the PopConf.doc file to your usual directory that has your Word documents in.
