250,000 new jobs created

These policies have already created more than quarter of a million productive new jobs in New Zealand since 1990.

Unemployment was the political issue when National took over from the last Labour Government.

Today, New Zealand's job performance today is among the best in the OECD.

 

Export earnings up 32%

In the 7 years to March '97, export earnings, assisted by a more competitive economy, have soared by a whopping 32%.

At the same time, exporters realigned their regional priorities.

In that period, our earnings in the US actually fell by 4%. Japan rose 20%, Europe rose by 24%, we got a massive 41% gain in Australia,

and way beyond that, 79%, in Asia's 9 biggest markets outside Japan.
