Labour’s Health Policy - A U-Turn on Reality

The Minister of Health, Hon Jenny Shipley says rearranging the system won’t change the issues facing New Zealand health services.

“This Labour health policy relies on more money and Labour policy reversals. The previous Labour government supported income and asset testing. Helen Clark also fired elected area health boards and replaced them with appointed members. Under desperate electoral pressure they do a total about-turn on policy,” Mrs Shipley said.

“Those who work in the health sector don’t want further change. Health professionals want to be able to focus on their patients. National, however, welcomes Labour’s endorsement of the waiting time initiative.

“Labour, like all other parties, must explain where this $2 billion is going to come from,” Mrs Shipley said.
