The Mission statement of the New Zealand Police has been modified to specifically reflect an overall commitment to "service", "community" and "public safety".
MISSION STATEMENT
"TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY BY REDUCING THE INCIDENCE AND EFFECTS OF CRIME, DETECTING AND APPREHENDING OFFENDERS, MAINTAINING LAW AND ORDER AND ENHANCING PUBLIC SAFETY"
A short "focus statement" of the Police position reflecting the thrust of a strategic plan which requires direct collaboration with the public has been developed in the form of a Service Motto.
