New District Court Judge
The Minister of Justice, Hon D.A.M. Graham, today announced the appointment of Auckland Barrister Andrew John Becroft as a District Court Judge.
Judge Becroft will be sworn in at Otahuhu District Court on 29 May and will sit at Wanganui from 24 June.
Judge Becroft has been a Barrister Sole in South Auckland since 1993.
One of two Mangere Community Law Centre founding solicitors, he was Senior Solicitor at the Centre from 1986 until 1993. He remains a Trustee of the Mangere Community Law Office Trust.
Judge Becroft was admitted to the Bar in 1981 and spent six years with the Fortune Manning Law Partnership in Auckland, becoming an Associate in 1985.
He is a Council Member of the NZ Law Society, Convenor of its Legal Services Committee and a Council Member of the Auckland District Law Society. He is a former member of the ADLSs working party on the role of women in the legal profession and its committee on legal aid.
In 1990 he organised the Developing Bar Conference for lawyers from less developed countries which preceded the official opening of the Commonwealth Law Conference in Auckland.
Judge Becroft is a co-author of Dixons Road Traffic Law.
