New District Court Judge
The Minister of Justice, Hon D.A.M. Graham, today announced the appointment of Auckland Queen's Counsel Simon Grant Lockhart as a District Court Judge.
Judge Lockhart will be sworn in at the Auckland District Court on 27 September and will sit in Auckland from 30 September.
Judge Lockhart was admitted to the Bar in 1959 and he was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1982.
Judge Lockhart is former Vice President and Council Member of the NZ Law Society. He also served as a Member and Deputy Chairman of the NZLS's Disciplinary Tribunal.
He is a former President and Council Member of the Auckland District Law Society and is currently Chairman of the ADLS's Legal Aid Assignment Committee.
He has been Registrar of Private Investigators and Security Guards since 1981, responsible for licensing private investigators and security guards.
For the past 15 years he has been a member of the Panel of Prosecutors. He has extensive experience in civil litigation and criminal trials.
Judge Lockhart has appeared for the defence in approximately 50 murder trials and several major defamation and fraud trials.
