The Minister of Cultural Affairs, Hon D.A.M Graham
NZSO Board resigns

The Minister of Cultural Affairs, Hon D.A.M. Graham, today announced that he had been informed that the Board of the NZ Symphony Orchestra had tendered their resignations.

One is to take effect immediately while the remainder will take effect from the time of the appointment of a new Board.

The Chairman first wrote to me on 22 March 1996 indicating that members of the Board were prepared to resign to enable a more representative Board to be appointed.

I wish to thank the outgoing Board for their tireless efforts to promote and further the interests of the Orchestra.

In particular, I would like to pay tribute to the Chairman, Dr Hylton LeGrice, for his enthusiasm, commitment and advocacy on behalf the Orchestra.

The outgoing Board can be assured that their efforts to highlight the Orchestras needs have been invaluable to the shareholding ministers in the deliberations preceding this months Budget.

I expect to be in a position to announce the makeup of the incoming Board shortly.
