New High Commissioner to Kiribati

Career diplomat John Mills is to be New Zealand's next High Commissioner to the Republic of Kiribati Foreign Minister Don McKinnon announced today.

Mr Mills has also been appointed as non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia.

The High Commission in Tarawa is the newest of our ten Pacific posts. Its responsibilities cover a huge area and relationships with countries who have become active and important players in the region, Mr McKinnon said.

Mr Mills joined the Ministry in 1967 and has served in London, Kuala Lumpur, Apia and Jakarta. He has considerable experience in Pacific affairs, is well known through out the region will take up his appointment in October.
